An entertainment-based company providing the highest quality in dance
productions for public or private events.
The Dance Project is housed at The Cascade Theatre in downtown Redding
CA.
The Dance Project is an auxiliary of the Shasta County Arts Council.
The Dance Project gives area dancers and entertainers 16 and older
the opportunity to rehearse and perform in a professional company.
Company auditions are held twice a year and are open to the public.
Company dancers commit approximately 100 hours to each show.
In addition, the company has an Apprenticeship Program for students
ages 14 or older which gives young people who excel in the area of
dance an opportunity to work with more established performers.
The Dance Project also has student cast positions for performers who
are under 14 and may fit a certain role or character in one particular
project.
All apprentices and student casts are invited to audition by the director,
and audition committee.
The
Dance Project Performances
The Dance Project has two full scale shows each year; “A Cascade
Christmas” a holiday show in the winter and a Dance Festival in
the spring. The Dance Project can be hired for public or private events.
The
Dance Project Public Outreach
The Dance Project Company board and committee members are involved in
all aspects of supporting our community. The company works with other
organizations as audition committees, summer staff, year-round staff for
school programs, and other events as needed. The Dance Project has been
involved with the following events:
- Record Searchlight Contest
- KRCR Food Drive
- KIXE Channel 9 Membership Drive
- University Preparatory Dance Department
- Kids Unlimited Institute of the Arts
- Shasta High School Music Department
The
Field Trip Experience
The Dance Project is committed
to educating the artists of tomorrow with the field trip experience. The
Dance Project invites schools to purchase discounted tickets to a full
performance at the Cascade Theatre during school hours. At the end of
the performance students are introduced to the world of the theatre with
a 15 minute discussion. Students meet the dancers, directors, and technical
crew.
In
our future
Looking down the road, The
Dance Project hopes to visit each school before they attend the theatre.
This will give the students an idea of what to look for when attending
a performance. Students will have a chance to interact with the company
director’s and dancers.
Giving
Back
The Dance Project is proud to give back to
our community. One way we do this is by choosing a local charity to support
with each show. We try to educate our audience about that charity with
a section of our show or program. A portion of proceeds from our show
are then donated to that charity.
Recent recipients
include:
- Shasta Community Health
H.I.V.
- Women’s Refuge
- In the spring of 2006
our local charity will be
Recreational Opportunities for Cancer Kids,
Otherwise known as R.O.C.K.
Project
Dance History
The Dance Project gave its debut performance at MarketFest in summer of
2000.
The company included dancers and teachers from area studios and groups.
In 2004 The Dance Project was approached by the Cascade Theatre to raise
funds for the theatres restoration.
The Dance Project performed on New Year’s Eve 2004. This opened
the road for a continuing relationship with the theatre. The Dance Project
enhanced the last 4 fundraisers for the theatre, which opened on August
14, 2004. The company was then announced as the House Dance Company.
